Curly, teased, big hair styled by Teddy Charles was used to accentuate the subtle femininity and late 70's vibe of the collection Luca Luca let loose on the runway today. Charles, who was working on behalf of Cutler Salon, created the style by first pinning the hair into small, tight curls all around the head. He then released the curls and teased them back toward the roots, leaving some curl at the ends of the hair.
“It’s very dramatic,” he said offering that he used Redken hair spray to keep the voluminous, massive curls in place.
Makeup artist "genius" (I adore him) James Kaliardos, working on behalf of MAC Cosmetics at Luca Luca, created what was described as a “Seventies Kim Basinger with a Twenties edge, sensual but not vulgar.” He applied a neutral cream color on the cheeks, and a liquid cream black on the eyes, which was then brushed loosely onto the outer edges of the eyes. “It’s black, smudgy and sexy feeling,” he said. “It’s heavy on the outer part of the eye, moving everything outward. It’s not too precise.” For lips he applied a pinkish, deep rose color, “which gives you sophistication but girly.”
Raul Melgoza for Luca Luca seemed to want to flaunt a seventies, very early 80's vibe with this collection, though with the exception of the dresses, many shown above, the collection wasn't a huge hit. This has me wondering if there will be anything in the Spring 2010 collections really worth getting all excited about. Of course, I've not gone through all of them yet; Prabal Gurung, Andy & Deb, Preen and a couple others have caught my eye (more later). Then of course, Alexander Wang shows tonight (actually they're just finishing up, and I'm understandingthe beauty is all about the brow), so we can look for a bit of hopefulness there as well.
